Robbery attempt at Union Bank of India Branch in Raipur

An attempted break-in was reported at the Union Bank of India branch in Chandandih, Raipur, after an unidentified person allegedly entered the bank during the night and damaged several items. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Amanaka police station.

According to the complaint filed by Branch Manager Ganesh Mishra, the bank was closed at around 7:00 PM on October 5 after the day’s work was completed. The next morning, on October 6, bank employee Danish Khan arrived at around 9:30 AM to open the branch and noticed that the lock of the branch manager’s cabin was broken and the shutter had been damaged.

The employee immediately informed the branch manager about the incident. Mishra reached the branch and inspected the premises. During the inspection, a broken windowpane was found. The bank suspects that the intruder may have entered the premises after breaking the lock and smashing the window glass.

Several items inside the branch were found damaged. The chequebook drop box had been damaged and opened, while table drawers were also found open and damaged. Computer screens and monitors inside the bank were damaged as well.

The intruder also appeared to have attempted to break open the lock of the cash vault, or strong room. The lock was found damaged, although it was not immediately clear whether the person managed to gain access to the vault.

The bank management has not yet completed a detailed assessment of the cash, documents, records and other assets kept at the branch. The exact extent of any loss, if any, will be known after the assessment is completed.

Following the incident, the bank manager approached the police and requested registration of a case against the unidentified person or persons involved in the break-in. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.

The police are expected to examine the scene and collect evidence to identify the accused. Further investigation is underway to determine how the intruder entered the branch, what items were targeted and whether anything was stolen from the bank.
