China again bought 21 tonnes of Gold, Check Top Countries having Maximum Gold

China has again bought 21 tonnes (21,000 kg) of gold last month i.e. in September. The official gold reserve of China has increased to 2,196 tonnes. This is China’s biggest purchase of gold in a month after September 2023. China’s central bank, People’s Bank of China (PBoC), has increased its gold reserve for the 23rd consecutive month. The value is around Rs 27,112 crore.

In September, China purchased 21 tons whereas in August, China purchased 18.5 tons and in July, China purchased 18 tons.

September’s purchases were the largest monthly purchase since September 2023’s 24 tons. China’s increased purchases came at a time when gold prices had fallen briefly this year. This means that during the low prices, China purchased more gold for its reserves.

Which countries are purchasing Gold?

According to the latest report from the World Gold Council (WGC Report), China and Poland remain the leading gold-buying countries among central banks in 2026. According to the report, in August, the world’s central banks purchased a total of 39 tonnes of gold. The total announced purchases by central banks from January to August 2026 was 170 tonnes.

By August, China’s annual gold purchases had reached 80 tons, second only to Poland. Poland has purchased 98 tons so far in 2026, and has a total gold reserve of 648 tons.

Which country has maximum gold?

The United States leads the world in official central bank gold reserves with 8,133 tonnes, followed by Germany and Italy.

According to data compiled by the World Gold Council and Trading Economics, here are the top countries by official gold reserves:

  • United States: 8,133 tonnes
  • Germany: 3,350 tonnes
  • Italy: 2,452 tonnes
  • France: 2,437 tonnes
  • China: 2,346 tonnes
  • Russia: 2,283 tonnes
  • Switzerland: 1,040 tonnes
  • India: 881 tonnes
  • Japan: 846 tonnes
  • Poland: 632 tonnes
  • Netherlands: 612 tonnes
  • Turkey: 531 tonnes
  • Uzbekistan: 432 tonnes
  • Taiwan: 424 tonnes
  • Portugal: 383 tonnes
