8th Pay Commission Update: Report Due in 18 Months

The Government of India has informed the Lok Sabha that the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) has already been formed. This was shared in a written reply to an unstarred question on 8 December 2025 in the Lok Sabha.

The question was asked by N K Premachandran, Thiru Thanga Tamilselvan, Dr. Ganapathy Rajkumar P, and Dharmendra Yadav. The reply was given by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.

The government said that the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the 8th Pay Commission have already been notified on 3 November 2025 through a resolution of the Ministry of Finance. However, the date of implementation of the 8th Pay Commission will be decided later by the government.

The government also said that it will make proper budget arrangements for implementing the approved recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission.

As per official data, there are about 50.14 lakh Central Government employees and around 69 lakh pensioners who are expected to benefit from the 8th Pay Commission.

The government clarified that the 8th Pay Commission will decide its own method and procedure for preparing its recommendations.

It was also stated that the 8th Pay Commission will submit its recommendations within 18 months from the date of its constitution.

The government did not announce any specific date for salary revision or implementation at this stage.
