Odisha, India – In a remarkable display of determination, Jay Kishore Pradhan, a 64-year-old retired State Bank of India (SBI) employee, has successfully cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) in 2020. His story challenges conventional ideas about age and career changes, showing that it is never too late to follow your passion.

Pradhan, who hails from Odisha, retired as a deputy manager from SBI. But instead of opting for a quiet retirement, he reignited a long-held dream – to enter the medical field. With sheer determination, he embarked on a rigorous journey of preparation for NEET, a highly competitive exam for medical aspirants in India.

His commitment was evident as he managed to balance his academic goals with family responsibilities, all while navigating the pressures of preparing for such a demanding exam.

Despite these challenges, Pradhan remained focused. His persistence paid off when he passed the NEET UG exam in 2020, earning a seat at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR). This accomplishment marked a significant turning point in his journey toward becoming a doctor.

Pradhan’s achievement highlights a broader trend. According to Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, there is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for NEET UG. This policy encourages aspiring medical students of all ages to pursue their dreams, reinforcing that education and ambition can flourish at any stage of life.
