Finally the voice of bank employees is being heard. As per the sources, Public Sector Banks in India are planning to recruit around 50,000 Employees this year. Government Banks in India such as SBI, PNB, BOB are suffering from severe staff crisis and there is urgent need to recruitment.
Now, the banks have decided to recruit nearly 50,000 people during the financial year 2025–26. This large-scale hiring drive is aimed at meeting the increasing business demand, branch expansion, and enhancing customer service across the country.
SBI will Recruit Maximum Candidates this year
Among the 12 public sector banks, the State Bank of India (SBI) — the largest government-owned bank in India — will be the biggest recruiter. SBI is expected to hire around 20,000 employees, which includes both officers and junior-level staff such as clerks. The recruitment will also cover specialist officer (SO) roles to strengthen specific departments like IT, risk management, and finance.
So far in FY 2025-26, SBI has already hired 505 Probationary Officers (POs) and 13,455 Junior Associates (clerks). These hires are part of SBI’s efforts to improve customer experience and strengthen operations across its branches in all 35 states and union territories.
As of March 2025, SBI had a total workforce of 2,36,226 employees. Out of this, there were 1,15,066 officers. The average cost of hiring one full-time employee during the period was ₹40,440.59. SBI’s annual employee attrition rate remains low, at less than 2%.
PNB and Central Bank of India Recruitment
The country’s second-largest public sector bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), plans to hire more than 5,500 employees this year. As of March 2025, PNB had a total of 1,02,746 employees working across India.
Similarly, the Central Bank of India will also recruit around 4,000 people by the end of March 2026. These recruitments are expected to fill existing vacancies and help the bank manage its growing customer base and operations more efficiently.

Several Banks have already released vacancies. Bank of Baroda has released 2500 vacancies of Local Bank Officer (LBO). 5208 vacancies have been released for IBPS PO Recruitment 2025. 1007 vacancies have been released for IBPS SO Recruitment 2025.

Recruitment Will Include Officers and Clerks
Out of the total 50,000 planned hires across all public sector banks, about 21,000 will be officer-level positions, including POs and specialist officers. The remaining 29,000 will be for clerical and other staff roles, such as junior associates and support staff.
This mass hiring is seen as a positive step not only for job seekers but also for public sector banks, which are expanding their presence and modernising operations to meet the growing demands of India’s banking sector.
