10 Central Trade Unions have extended their support to UFBU for All India Strike and agitation against the government.
Indian National Trade Union Congress – INTUC, All India Trade Union Congress – AITUC, Hind Mazdoor Sabha – HMS, Centre of Indian Trade Unions – CITU, All India United Trade Union Centre – AIUTUC, Trade Union Co-Ordination Centre – TUCC, Self Employed Women’s Association – SEWA, All India Central Council of Trade Unions – AICCTU, Labour Progressive Federation – LPF, United Trade Union Centre – UTUC, have extended support to UFBU.
The trade unions said they support the united efforts of bank employees and officers to protect their rights and oppose the attempts to divide the workforce through the revised incentive system.
UFBU has announced strike on 11 September against the new PLI scheme and for the introduction of 5-Day Banking.
The proposal for 5 Day Banking was submitted in 2024, but the matter is still pending before the Government for a final decision.
The trade unions said that an agreement was reached in 2020 for providing a uniform incentive based on the overall performance and profits of a bank. Under that arrangement, the incentive was proposed to range from 5 days’ wages to 15 days’ wages, depending on the profitability of the bank.
However, according to the trade unions, the Government did not implement the agreement in the manner originally agreed. They further stated that a revised incentive scheme was introduced, which is based on individual employee performance rather than the performance of the bank as a whole.
The unions have described this revised system as discriminatory and expressed concern that it could result in division among employees and officers.
The 10 Central trade unions said that the UFBU has taken steps to oppose these developments and to bring bank employees and officers together to protect their rights.
The ten Central Trade Unions have now extended their solidarity and support to the UFBU’s agitation programme planned for the coming months.
