On Sunday, May 11, 2025, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was attacked with harsh trolling and abusive comments on social media after he made an official announcement that India and Pakistan had agreed to cease military operations. The trolling began following his statement, which was made on behalf of the government, sparking a wave of online hostility. In response to the unwarranted personal attacks, both the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Association and Indian Police Service (IPS) Association came out strongly in support of Mr. Misri and his family.

As the official spokesperson, Misri announced that the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan had agreed to cease all military actions across land, air, and sea. This announcement came after four days of escalating cross-border tensions. However, some social media users perceived the ceasefire as a sign of weakness, accusing Misri of “surrendering” to Pakistan. IAS Association Condemns Personal Attacks
The IAS Association took to social media platform X to show their support for Mr. Misri. They expressed their deep regret over the personal attacks aimed at him, stating that such attacks against civil servants, who are fulfilling their duties with integrity, are completely unacceptable. The association emphasized that they are committed to protecting the dignity of public service and stood in solidarity with Mr. Misri and his family during this difficult time.
IPS Association Joins in Condemnation
Similarly, the IPS Association also condemned the vulgar personal attacks on Mr. Misri. In their statement, they said they “unequivocally condemn” the offensive comments and described these actions as “absolutely intolerable.” They highlighted that these unwarranted assaults on civil servants who are dedicated to serving the nation should not be tolerated.
Abusive Comments on Social Media
Mr. Misri’s personal account on X was bombarded with abusive messages, with users blaming him for the agreement between India and Pakistan. Several political figures also expressed their support for the Foreign Secretary. Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of AIMIM and Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, wrote on X that civil servants work under the Executive and should not be blamed for decisions made by political leadership. He stressed that the attacks on Mr. Misri were unfair and misguided.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot also condemned the trolling, calling it unacceptable to target civil servants and diplomats who work tirelessly for the country’s benefit. He highlighted that Mr. Misri was simply doing his job, conveying the message of the Indian leadership.
Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of the Congress Party in the Lok Sabha, also came to Mr. Misri’s defense. He praised the Foreign Secretary for doing his job impeccably and stated that there was no reason for anyone to feel malice toward him. He pointed out that Mr. Misri had merely communicated a message from India’s political leaders.
Finally, V. Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), also expressed his support for his colleague and batchmate. He called Mr. Misri one of India’s most respected diplomats, who has always demonstrated values of service above self and a Nation First approach.
