Villagers Locked Bank in Bihar due to delay in Fraud Investigation

Koilwar: Kayamnagar witnessed a dramatic protest on Wednesday as villagers locked the main gate of the Gramin Bank branch, demanding action against a Customer Service Point (CSP) operator accused of defrauding local customers. The protest caused significant disruption, leaving bank employees trapped inside the premises for nearly two hours.

The villagers, including men and women, gathered at the bank around 1 PM, voicing their anger over alleged embezzlement by the CSP operator from Birampur, under the Geedha police station area. According to the protesters, despite previous complaints and even a roadblock staged over the issue, the bank management had failed to take any decisive action.

“The CSP operator has taken money from several customers and failed to deposit it in their accounts. Despite our repeated complaints, no steps have been taken,” said one of the protesters.

Work Disrupted, Employees Trapped
The protest escalated as villagers locked the branch’s main gate, halting banking operations. Branch Manager Anil Kumar confirmed that this was the second such incident within the week. “Two days ago, the CSP customers locked the gate, and now the same has happened again. Work stopped after noon because of this,” he said.

Following negotiations and assurances from the bank management, the villagers allowed the employees to leave after the day’s banking activities were completed.

Management and Police Response
After the incident, Manager Anil Kumar, along with other staff, reported the matter to Regional Manager Rajesh Bharti. “We have informed the regional office about these recurring issues and the impact on bank operations,” Kumar stated.

The local police, however, said they had not received any formal complaint regarding the protest or the fraud allegations.

Villagers Demand Swift Action
The aggrieved customers demanded that the bank take immediate action against the accused CSP operator and resolve their financial grievances. “We will not stop until justice is served,” said another villager.

The protest highlights growing frustrations among rural customers over financial mismanagement and delayed responses from banking authorities. Whether these demands prompt stricter action against the CSP operator remains to be seen.
