US Approves Brazilian Bank Banco Inter to Open Branch in Miami
The United States Federal Reserve has approved Banco Inter, S.A., a major bank from Brazil, to open a branch in Miami, Florida. The approval was granted through an official order issued on January 16, 2026.
Banco Inter had applied for permission under the International Banking Act, which requires foreign banks to get approval from U.S. regulators before opening branches in the country. As part of the process, a public notice about the application was published in The Miami Herald in June 2024, inviting comments from the public. The Federal Reserve confirmed that no objections were received within the given time.
After reviewing the application and compliance requirements, the Federal Reserve approved the establishment of the Miami branch. This will allow Banco Inter to legally offer banking and financial services in the United States.
Banco Inter is the 21st largest bank in Brazil, with total assets of $15.3 billion as of June 30, 2025. The bank provides services such as financing, investments, and real estate credit. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Inter Holding Financeira S.A., which in turn is owned by Inter&Co, a publicly traded company.
With this approval, Banco Inter joins other international banks operating in the U.S., strengthening cross-border banking ties between Brazil and the United States.
