Union Bank of India had recently released a circular instructing officers to open Retail Loan Processing Centres (RLPs) on holidays i.e. second and fourth Saturday and Sunday. As per Union Bank, this would help the bank get more business but the bank has not considered the work-life balance and other aspects of this.
In regards to this, the All India Union Bank Officers’ Federation had written a letter to the CGM HR to look into this matter. But till now, no reply has been received. Now, the union has requested MD & CEO to look into it and resolve the issue.

The union said that the directive to operate RLP on holidays, including second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays, constitutes a clear violation of the Joint Note signed with IBA by officer trade unions. Furthermore, it contravenes established industrial practices and standards. This directive also contradicts the agreement reached with the federation to ensure work-life parity for officers, as well as the subsequent directive of CLC.
Issues raised by Union
Is the goal to market and source more retail products? If so, why hasn’t the bank considered utilizing low-cost human resources through UBISL instead of incurring significant costs by involving permanent officers and opening RLPs
Do the RLPs have pending retail proposals that have exceeded the targeted Turnaround Time (TAT), necessitating processing and sanctioning by officers on holidays? If so, why hasn’t the bank considered posting extra staff for RLP’s? This solution could avoid calling in officers on Saturdays & Sundays, maintain morale, and still ensure efficient processing.
Should we consider conducting documentation on holidays to attract more customers? Instead, why not transition to online documentation and digital signatures in this digital era? This move could streamline processes, reduce operational costs associated with traditional methods like opening RLPS.
If the initiative isn’t about marketing, sourcing, processing, sanctioning, and disbursing retail loans, what was the vertical’s rationale before implementing such a demoralizing change across 50 locations, impulsively and without running a pilot project.
Don’t waste your time don’t fight against opening of branches if you want really fight ask for overtime allowance which is legitimate without fighting for legitimate OT ALLOWANCE you are cheating the employees again and again our worst conditions are because of unions only
IF YOU ASK OT ALLOWANCE MD WILL TELL ALL BRANCHES SHOULD CLOSED BY 4.45PM
Officers cadre doesn’t eligible for overtime allowance only clerk are under workers label.
