UCO Bank employees in Ahmedabad have raised a strong protest against Zonal Head, accusing him of harassment, creating an unhealthy work environment, and violating basic work guidelines.

According to a letter sent by the employees to the Zonal Head, staff members have raised various issues such as meetings being held beyond office hours, denial of leaves, excessive workload, and disrespectful treatment. This letter has gone viral on social media and users are criticizing bank for such a toxic work environment.

UCO Bank Employees have made following allegations against Zonal Head:

  1. Meetings Beyond Working Hours
Employees claim that Branch Heads (BH) and Assistant Branch Heads (ABH) are called to the Zonal Office (ZO) after normal working hours, often kept sitting idle, causing stress and health problems. Despite RBI guidelines for fixed working hours, these rules are allegedly ignored.
  2. Too Many Meetings Affecting Customer Service
Frequent review and video meetings are reportedly held at odd hours, sometimes late into the night, with one meeting even stretching past 10 PM. This disrupts customer service at branches as officers are away from their desks.
  3. Unparliamentary Language & Disrespect
Staff accuse the Zonal Head of using disrespectful language towards officers. They point out that officers in lower scales bring in most of the business and should be treated with dignity.
  4. Denial of Leave
Officers, many of whom are from other states, say that leave requests for family emergencies or personal functions are often rejected without valid reasons, adding to their stress.
  5. Excessive Pressure in Ahmedabad & Surrounding Branches
Employees allege that the Zonal Head frequently calls officers from about 30 branches without significant reasons, adding to work-life imbalance.
  6. Unrealistic Campaign Targets
Even with staff shortages, officers are reportedly pressured to meet campaign targets. Many have to attend the counter all day while also being forced to register campaign figures, leading to “ridiculous banking” focused on inflated numbers instead of sustainable growth.
  7. Meetings on Weekends & Last Days of the Week
Holding meetings on the last day of the week, employees say, deprives them of their weekend and family time.
  8. Broadcast Messages Without Permission
Staff claim that executives send broadcast messages without their consent and warn they may complain to the government portal if it continues.
  9. Insensitive Behaviour During Emergencies
One incident mentioned in the letter involved an officer whose child was sick. Instead of showing empathy, the Zonal Head reportedly verified the situation via a video call through the chief manager, which employees called “shocking and non-humanitarian.”
  10. Violation of RBI Guidelines on Borrower Visits
Officers say they are instructed to visit certain borrowers after stipulated time norms or even on holidays, in violation of RBI rules.
  11. Improper Meeting Notifications
Meeting notices are allegedly sent via WhatsApp instead of official email, often at the last minute.
  12. Late Sittings Beyond 7 PM
Staff demand that work plans be adjusted so everyone can leave by 7 PM, pointing out that in many good banks, employees leave by 5:30 PM.

The protesting employees have urged the Zonal Head to immediately stop these malpractices, respect working hours, approve leave fairly, and ensure meetings are held within official timings. They stress that UCO Bank must uphold its reputation and focus on genuine growth instead of inflated figures.

The letter written by UCO Bank employees in Ahmedabad has now gone viral across various social media platforms, sparking widespread discussion and criticism.

The letter is more than just a formal complaint — it is a collective cry of frustration from employees who say they have been dealing with increasing workplace pressure, disregard for official guidelines, and a lack of respect from senior management.

UCO Bank should seriously read this letter and review the work environment prevailing in the bank.
