Reports suggest that the bank was overcrowded and there was limited space in the branch. An argument started between two women over their place in the queue and this led to a fight. Customers and locals quickly stepped in to separate them.
Eyewitnesses noted that security guards were missing from the scene, raising concerns about the bank’s security arrangements. Eventually, the situation was controlled after much effort. Following the incident, local residents urged the bank administration to improve crowd management, especially on busy days, to prevent such situations in the future.
This incident also highlights the growing staff crisis in Public Sector Banks. In the video, a huge rush of customers can be seen, but only a limited number of staff are available to manage the crowd and provide services. Such staff shortages not only create inconvenience for customers but also put unnecessary pressure on existing employees, leading to delays, frustration, and even disputes like the one witnessed in PNB’s Beldarichak branch.
Bankers have been demanding that banks recruit more staff to handle the rising customer base, especially during peak days when footfall is high. Timely hiring and proper crowd management could prevent such incidents and ensure smoother banking operations.
The irony is that while the government claims banks have sufficient staff to handle operations, this video shows the reality. Government says that as on 31.03.2025, 96% staff are in position against their business requirement.
The details of the total number of employees during the last five years, year-wise and bank-wise, are as under:
