Two Booked for Attempting to Cheat in IBPS Bank PO Exam in Mohali
Mohali: The IT City police have registered a case against two individuals for allegedly attempting to cheat during a Bank Probationary Officer (PO) examination. The incident took place at an online examination centre in Sector 83, where one of the accused was caught on the spot while the other managed to escape.
According to the police, the case was registered based on a complaint filed by Gautam Gupta, Operations Executive at TCS, which was supervising the examination. Gupta stated that on October 12, he was posted as the venue commanding officer at the centre, where the Bank PO exam was being conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
During the exam, a candidate identified as Sachin Kumar, a resident of Kadma village in Haryana’s Bhiwani district, appeared with a disability certificate and was provided a helper (scribe) to assist him during the test. However, Gupta noticed suspicious behaviour between Sachin and his scribe, who was later identified as Rohit — believed to be using a fake identity.
On verification, the Aadhaar card presented by Rohit was found to be forged, raising doubts about his credentials. “When I confronted them and checked the documents thoroughly, it became clear that the scribe’s identity was fake,” Gupta said in his statement.
Before the officials could act, Sachin Kumar fled the scene, while Punjab National Bank Chief Manager Gulshan Kumar, who was present at the venue, helped apprehend Rohit and handed him over to the police.
Police said that a case has been registered against both accused under Sections 319(2), 318(4), 336(2), 340(2), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Preliminary investigation suggests that the duo had planned to fraudulently clear the bank exam. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest Sachin Kumar, while the identity and background of Rohit are being verified.
