In a shocking incident, two officers of Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank’s Jeetipur branch in Basti district were kidnapped by unidentified miscreants and later released after being brutally assaulted. The victims include Branch Manager Ravi Tiwari and Second Officer Rashik Bharti.
According to the official letter issued by the Baroda U.P. Bank Officers Association, the incident took place on Saturday evening. Both officers were returning home after closing the bank for the day when they were abducted near the Jeetipur branch, which falls under Parasuram Pur police station in Harraiya tehsil.
The bank officers were held hostage throughout the night at an unknown location. They were reportedly tortured and physically assaulted by the kidnappers. They were released the next day in a severely injured condition.
This incident has caused panic and anger among the banking community. The Association has strongly condemned the incident, calling it deeply disturbing and a serious threat to the safety of bank employees across the region.
Rajesh Khabi, President of the Baroda U.P. Bank Officers Association, has written to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Basti, demanding immediate arrest and strict action against the culprits. The association has warned that if swift action is not taken, all bank branches in the district could be shut down, and a statewide protest may be launched.
“This horrifying incident has created fear and outrage among all bank employees. If the criminals are not arrested and punished soon, we will be forced to take strong steps, including closing all branches in the district as part of our protest,” the letter states.
The association has also sent copies of the complaint to key authorities including the Finance Minister of India, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Director General of Police (UP), and the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank.
As of now, police have not released an official statement on the matter, and investigations are ongoing.
