Tragic Accident in South Delhi: PNB Peon Killed After Truck Hits Bicycle Near Chirag Delhi

A 56-year-old Punjab National Bank employee died in a tragic road accident in South Delhi on Wednesday night after a speeding truck collided with his bicycle near Chirag Delhi.

According to police officials, the incident took place at the Chirag Delhi red light under the flyover. After receiving information, a police team reached the spot and found a severely damaged bicycle, a truck bearing an HR registration number, and the body of the victim lying nearby.

The deceased was identified as Raju Kajaniya (56), son of Kalicharan, a resident of Anna Nagar near ITO, New Delhi. He was employed as a peon with Punjab National Bank. His body has been sent to the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The truck driver, Arun Kumar (29), a resident of Sitamarhi district in Bihar, was detained at the accident site. The police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident.

The crime team inspected the spot, and a case has been registered under the relevant sections of law. Further investigation is underway to establish whether overspeeding or negligence led to the fatal accident.

Increasing Road Accidents in India

As many as 26,770 people died in road accidents on National Highways in the first six months of 2025 calendar year. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said as many as 52,609 fatal accidents took place in 2024 on National Highways (NH).
