The Ministry of Labour and Employment has asked Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to attend a meeting with the Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC) in New Delhi on August 1 to discuss the issue of delayed onboarding of over 600 experienced professionals.

This step was taken after the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) sent a formal complaint to the ministry. NITES alleged that although TCS had given offer letters and confirmed joining dates to these professionals, the company later delayed their onboarding indefinitely without providing any proper reason, revised timeline, or official communication.

In response to the complaint, the ministry sent a letter to the Chairman and Managing Director of TCS, requesting them to be present at the meeting either personally or through a senior representative who is knowledgeable about the matter and authorized to make decisions.

The letter, signed by Regional Labour Commissioner O.P. Singh, also mentioned that if TCS has any written explanation or statement, it should be submitted before the meeting.

NITES, in its complaint, has demanded that the ministry ensure TCS gives a clear and time-bound plan for onboarding the affected professionals.

They have also asked for compensation for the delay period, the possibility of assigning alternative roles within the company, and access to mental health support through TCS’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

NITES highlighted that many of the affected employees, with experience ranging from 2 to 18 years, had already made major personal and financial changes in their lives—such as relocating—in anticipation of joining TCS.

However, they were left in a difficult situation when the company informed them of an indefinite delay at the last minute.

As of now, TCS has not responded to media inquiries on this matter. The meeting on August 1 is expected to shed more light on the situation and may lead to a resolution for the professionals who are waiting to begin their employment.
