TCS-BSNL Rs.15,000 Crore Deal, TCS setting up 4 Large BSNL Data Centres

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, has secured a significant deal with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), a state-owned telecom company, to deploy India’s first locally developed 4G network solution. The project involves setting up large data centers and installing equipment at 38 locations across BSNL’s entire service area. TCS will be collaborating with the government agency C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics) for this initiative.

Key Details of the Project

The TCS-BSNL deal includes the deployment of 38 data centers within BSNL premises, as well as the establishment of large data centers across four regions in the country. These data centers will serve as primary and disaster recovery servers. Additionally, as part of the project, TCS will be working with ITI Ltd to set up 100,000 4G sites for BSNL, with TCS completing 80% of the project and ITI handling the remaining portion.

N Ganapathy Subramaniam told ET, “This is going to be the most complex deployment with two large data centres in each of the four zones—PR (for primary server) and DR (for disaster recovery server).”

He further added, “Beyond this, in each telecom circle, we will deploy 30 data centres depending on load requirements of that circle. So, it’s 38 deployments in total and we are working with hardware supply partners to complete the implementation by June.”

Project Timeline and Recent Developments

The completion of the project is targeted for June, according to a report by the Economic Times. This announcement comes shortly after TCS reported better-than-expected Q4 results, with a 9% growth in net profit at ₹12,434 crore. The success of TCS’s India business and improved margins were credited for this growth.
