SK Majumdar Appointed as Executive Director of Canara Bank

State-owned Canara Bank Ltd announced on Monday, March 24, 2025, that the central government has appointed SK Majumdar as the executive director of the bank for a three-year term, effective immediately. His appointment was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services.

In a regulatory filing, Canara Bank stated:

“…the Central Government has appointed Shri S K Majumdar (D.o.B 15.01.1969), Chief General Manager & GCFO, Canara Bank as Executive Director, Canara Bank for a period of three years, with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier…”

Majumdar’s Background and Experience

At 56 years old, SK Majumdar is a chartered accountant and cost accountant with over 25 years of banking experience. He has been associated with Canara Bank since January 2000, holding several key leadership positions across branches and administrative offices. His expertise includes project finance, large corporate credit, and international banking operations.

Previous Roles in Canara Bank

Before his promotion, Majumdar served as the Chief General Manager & Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) at Canara Bank. He has also:

  • Led large corporate branches and the New York branch.
  • Headed the large corporate credit wing.
  • Served as the Circle Head of Delhi.

With his extensive experience, Majumdar is expected to play a crucial role in driving the bank’s strategic initiatives and strengthening its financial position in the coming years.
