The State Bank of India (SBI) has once again proved that its role goes far beyond banking. In the wake of the Tharali disaster, SBI stepped forward to support affected families by distributing essential items such as umbrellas, torches, water bottles, flour, and rice.

Tharali is a tehsil (administrative division) in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located on the banks of the Pindar River. Recently, a devastating cloudburst struck Tharali town in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district shortly after midnight on Friday, unleashing a torrent of water and debris.

According to the officials, the cloudburst occurred at Tharali tehsil after which a huge quantity of debris swept through the village burying houses, vehicles and shops leaving a trail of destruction.
