A regional manager of the State Bank of India has ordered that no leave should be sanctioned to an officer without his permission. This has led to widespread debate on social media. People are criticizing the order of the regional manager of RBO-4, Sri Ganganagar. The HR department sent the following email to all branches:
As per instructions by competent authority regarding Leave for officers Branch Managers are no longer authorized to approve or sanction leave of officer working under their control at branch level. Consequently:
- All leave applications must now be forwarded to the designated sanctioning authority at RBO
- Branch Managers shall ensure timely submission of leave requests without delay, along with their recommendations where applicable.
- All leave sanction rights reserved with RM sir, instead of extreme cases.
- Branches must ensure compliance of the above instructions

Request for leave as matter of routine should be discouraged but if BM is declared as powerless by Regional Manager by office order then what is a BM for ?
Sudden an employee suffers from Dengue or met an accident then what will be is it practical approach by the Bank, to get approved leave and then take treatment or first take treatment and thereafter inform by telephone or mail
Total impractical approach by the RM sir
It is my personal opinion
Loosu paya RM
This RM is an idiot,he thinks that all officers are his slaves. Such stupid so called RM has done nothing remarkable during their entire service during their service except the chamchagiri of their superiors.suppose someone from this stupid guy met with an accident or does then he must not attend these exegencies which he is forcing upon his junior officers.
There are a vast number of things which require a leave, such as parent teacher meeting of your staff or taking your parents to the doctor or any other purpose. If the HR department under the instructions of RM has sent such an email, then the RM as well as HR department should lead by example. They should work 100 hours every week for a ear without falling ill or taking leave and those 100 hours should be strictly monitored by outsourced depts. Then let’s see if they still send such emails.
He should handle all the complaints of customer too. If he wants to micromanage let him micromanage everything. Display his number in all branches.
Such an order reflects an unnecessarily authoritarian and inhumane approach to management. Denying Branch Managers the basic authority to sanction officers’ leave not only disrupts workflow but also shows distrust toward frontline leadership. Making every leave depend solely on the RM creates undue stress, delays, and humiliation for officers who have genuine personal or medical needs. This centralized control undermines employee dignity, morale, and healthy workplace culture.
