A photo from a late-night SBI review meeting in Prayagraj has gone viral — and employees are calling it a serious workplace issue. According to staff, the meeting chaired by Regional Manager Swadesh Srivastava started around 6:30 PM and was still going on after 8:30 PM. A screenshot timestamped 7:43 PM shows employees still seated, sparking a wave of criticism online.

Bank staff say these long, winter-night meetings are pushing them to the edge. Many claim they are already burdened with heavy targets, and such late-night reviews are ruining their work–life balance. Employees are openly asking:
❓ “How can a banker spend quality time with family after sitting in meetings till late night?”
❓ “How can we return next morning with fresh energy?”
Some have even called it “mental harassment”, arguing that endless meetings don’t improve performance — they only increase stress and fatigue. They insist that better planning, not pressure-filled late-night sessions, is the real way to achieve results.
SBI is the largest public sector bank in India. If SBI will conduct late night meetings, then other public sector banks will also follow the same. SBI is the leader in the banking industry. What SBI does is followed by other Banks.
Staff unions have long raised alarms about rising workload, burnout, and deteriorating working conditions — especially in big banks like SBI with massive business responsibilities. Many comments circulating online say the current culture may “damage the banking environment”, urging leaders to remember that “bankers are not machines” and deserve rest, dignity, and humane work hours.
SBI has not released an official response yet.
