A shocking case of assault on a female Bank officer has been reported in Kerala. A lady working as an officer in State Bank of India (SBI) Kannanalloor branch has been brutally assaulted. Kannanalloor is a village situated in Thrikkovilvattom gramapanchayat in Kollam District, Kerala, India.

A lady Field Officer of the State Bank of India’s Kannanalloor Branch was physically assaulted and verbally abused by a loan defaulter during her official duty on October 13, 2025.

According to reports, the officer had visited the borrower’s residence to follow up on a repeatedly defaulted personal loan. The borrower’s family reacted violently and the officer was allegedly assaulted and humiliated at the place and again attacked while trying to escape from the location.

Following a prompt complaint and intervention, the accused was arrested by the police the very next day and now he is in judicial custody.

But a big question still remains unanswered – Why a female officer was sent for recovery at borrower’s residence? Users are stating on social media – In past there have been several incidents of attack on Bank Employees during recovery. Then Why Still a female staff was sent for recovery?

Com. Sreenath Induchoodan, State Secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), Kerala, stated that such incidents reflect the growing vulnerability of bank officers engaged in recovery duties.

“It is unacceptable that officers who carry out their professional responsibilities should face physical harm and humiliation. This attack is not an isolated case but part of a disturbing trend,” he said.

AIBOC Kerala organised a dharna in Kollam to express solidarity with the victim and to demand stronger measures for the protection of bank officials. The protest saw participation from several district leaders and trade union representatives who stood united against the increasing incidents of workplace violence.

AIBOC Kerala has also stated that it will meet state ministers and government officials to demand concrete steps, including specific legislation ensuring the safety and dignity of bank officers.
