Local residents reported that Prasun Saurav, an HR professional at SBI, was traveling from Belbanwa in Motihari to Patna via Muzaffarpur. He was accompanied by his mother Veena Devi, elder sister Anamika, and niece Mary. Prasun was driving the car when it suddenly lost balance near the Bathna petrol pump and collided with a tree. Unfortunately, his mother died on the spot, while Prasun and Anamika were severely injured.
