A big fraud case has been reported in Delhi. Several people have lost large amounts of money at an SBI Customer Service Centre located in B Block, Sultanpuri, Outer Delhi. Customers who visited the centre to deposit or withdraw money found that their amounts never reflected in their accounts. The person who operated this customer service centre is on the run. The police have now registered a case and launched a manhunt to arrest the accused operator – Shamsher Khan.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District), Sachin Sharma, the main accused has been identified as Shamsher Khan. He is absconding, and multiple police teams are raiding different places to catch him. The police have already arrested one of his employees, Farman, who worked at the centre and is believed to be involved in the fraud.
On Thursday, many victims of this scam kept going between Sultanpuri Police Station and the SBI Branch in C Block, hoping to get updates or register complaints. More people are expected to come forward as they realize money is missing from their accounts.
One victim, Shivani, said that she had deposited ₹25,000 at the centre on February 19, based on the bank’s instruction. Farman gave her a stamped receipt, but the money was never credited to her account.
Another woman, Sharda, reported that she deposited ₹40,000 the same way but the amount did not appear in her account. She has filed complaints with both the bank and the police.
Some victims were defrauded through biometric thumb impressions. Surjan Lal shared that when he went to withdraw money, he was told to scan his fingerprint. Later, the staff told him the server was down and asked him to return later. But by then, ₹1.26 lakh had already been withdrawn from his account.
Another customer, Muskan, said that ₹12,000 was withdrawn from her account using her fingerprint without her knowledge.
Sunita, another resident, said she deposited ₹12,000 in February and ₹18,500 in April at the centre. When she updated her passbook, she was shocked to find that none of the deposits were credited to her account.
Sushila went to withdraw money but was asked to give a fingerprint scan. She was told to come back later, but ₹33,000 was already taken from her account.
SBI Reaction
After these fraud cases came to light, SBI put up a notice at the Sultanpuri Customer Service Centre stating that it had been deactivated due to irregular activities. But this has not solved the problem. Frustrated customers are visiting the branch and demanding that their money be returned. They warned that if the bank does not resolve the issue quickly, they will stage a protest outside the bank branch. SBI should quickly look into the matter and resolve it at the earliest.
