A shocking incident took place in New Purandarpur, Jakkanpur area of Patna when a State Bank of India (SBI) clerk, named Rajesh Kumar, opened fire during an argument with local youths over bike speeding. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the firing caused panic in the neighborhood.
What Happened?
Rajesh Kumar, who works as a clerk at SBI’s Gandhi Maidan branch, returned home after work around 7 PM on Monday. He lives in the New Purandarpur area. Soon after reaching home, he had a heated argument with a group of young men from the locality who were allegedly riding their bikes at high speed near his house.
In a sudden act of anger, Rajesh pulled out a pistol and fired two shots in the direction of the bikers. Thankfully, no one was hit, but the sound of gunfire caused fear and commotion in the area. Residents quickly informed the Jakkanpur police station.
Police Response and Arrest
The police arrived at the scene soon after getting the report of gunfire. They recovered two empty bullet shells from the spot. Rajesh Kumar was taken into custody, and the pistol used in the firing was also seized.
During police questioning, Rajesh revealed that he had bought the pistol for ₹25,000 from a young man while he was working at SBI’s Buxar branch. The police are now trying to identify the person who sold him the weapon and are conducting raids to arrest him.
Sadar ASP Abhinav confirmed the incident and said that the firing happened during an argument over reckless bike riding. He added that the SBI clerk has been arrested and both the weapon and cartridges have been recovered. Legal action is being taken. More details will be released soon.
