In a shocking incident, unknown criminals broke into an SBI ATM at Bagudi-Jodamba Chhak, located under the Soro police limits in Balasore district, Odisha. The robbery happened late on Sunday night and the thieves managed to steal a large amount of cash. However, the exact amount is still not known.
How the Robbery Happened
As per initial reports, the robbers arrived at the ATM in the middle of the night. To avoid getting caught, they first covered the CCTV cameras by spraying black paint on the lenses. Then, they broke the ATM shutter lock and entered the cabin. Once inside, they used a gas-cutting machine to cut open the ATM and access the cash chamber.
According to police, the SBI ATM in Odisha was filled with fresh cash on Sunday evening. This indicates that the robbers might have had prior knowledge about the refill. However, the exact amount of cash stolen has not yet been confirmed. SBI officials are expected to carry out an audit soon to find out how much money was taken.
How the Robbery Was Discovered
Sources say that the robbery came to light after the building owner received an automated alert from the bank’s system. When he went outside to check, he noticed unusual activity at the ATM. He quickly informed others in the area and raised an alarm. But by the time help arrived, the robbers had already closed the shutter and escaped.
Police Investigation Underway
Soro police reached the spot soon after getting the information and began their investigation. A team of forensic experts has been called in to collect evidence from the scene. They are looking for tool marks, fingerprints, or any other physical clues left behind by the robbers.
Senior police officers are also checking CCTV footage from nearby shops and roads to track the movements of the suspects.
No Arrests Yet
So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the robbery. Police are trying to find out if the gang was local or part of a bigger group operating across states. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are hopeful of catching the culprits soon.
