A big case of fraud has been reported at Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Balrampur. A major bank scam worth ₹5.25 crore has been uncovered at the Punjab National Bank branch in Naharbalaganj, Balrampur. The fraud was allegedly carried out by a contractor named Samarjit Singh in collusion with bank officials.

According to reports, Samarjit Singh persuaded some bank employees to join hands with him by offering them partnership in construction projects. Using this trust, he managed to obtain demand loans and overdrafts on the basis of fake documents. The funds sanctioned under these loans were then diverted into personal accounts, instead of being used for legitimate purposes.

The police have named several people as accused in this case – Branch Manager Mahesh Tripathi, bank officers Vinay Kumar Sharma and Santosh Gupta, and cashier Yashwant Kumar, along with contractor Samarjit Singh, his wife Poonam Singh, and son Vaibhav Singh.

Investigators also highlighted that Samarjit Singh, who hails from the Tarabganj area, is a person with strong political connections. He has previously been in the spotlight in connection with a murder case.

Balrampur SP Vikas Kumar confirmed that the case has now been assigned to CO City Jyoti Shri for detailed investigation. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against all those found guilty.

More details will be released soon.
