In a shocking incident in Kapurthala, Punjab, three armed robbers looted ₹40 lakh from an HDFC Bank branch located on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur Highway. The robbery happened in broad daylight and has created panic in the area.
According to reports, the robbers arrived at the bank in a car. As soon as they entered the bank, they pointed pistols at the staff. One of the robbers directly threatened a bank employee and ordered him to open the locker. Under pressure and fear, the employee handed over the cash—nearly ₹40 lakh—to the robbers.
The entire incident happened very quickly, and the robbers escaped from the scene before the police could arrive.
As soon as the robbery was reported, Senior Police Officer (SP) of Phagwara, Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, reached the spot along with her team. She confirmed that the police have received full information about the incident and that an investigation is already underway.

SP Bhatti mentioned that the robbers used firearms and arrived in a vehicle. The police are currently speaking with the bank staff to confirm the exact amount of money looted.
To catch the robbers, the police are now scanning CCTV footage from the bank as well as from nearby roads. This is being done to track the robbers’ movements and identify their vehicle.
In addition, the police are also checking mobile phone data from the surrounding area. They will analyze which mobile numbers were active near the bank during the time of the robbery. This could help trace the robbers or anyone who might be involved.
Since the case is suspicious, the police are also questioning the bank employees to find out if there was any insider involvement or any unusual activity before the robbery.
Once the exact amount of money looted is confirmed by the bank, the police will release more details.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of banks located in remote or highway areas. The police are working hard to catch the robbers and are using all available technology, including CCTV footage and mobile tracking, to solve the case.
