Rs.35,000 Stolen from Customer Inside Punjab National Bank, Accused Escapes

Muzaffarpur, Bihar: In Muzaffarpur, some criminals stole ₹35,000 from a customer at a Punjab National Bank branch in District Council Market on Station Road. The customer had gone to deposit cash. After the theft, the criminals ran away.

The incident created panic inside the bank. After getting the information, police from Nagar Police Station reached the bank and started an investigation. Ashfaq Jilani, a footwear businessman, has given a written complaint to the police to register an FIR.

Police said they are checking CCTV footage from the bank and nearby areas to identify the criminals.

The businessman said that the CCTV camera in the bank was not working, so the actual incident was not recorded. However, footage from five minutes after the incident has been found. He also raised concerns about the bank’s security.

The bank manager said that the CCTV camera was working. He added that a technician has been called to recover the footage from the time of the incident.

The businessman owns footwear shops in Motijheel and Pakki Sarai. On Monday afternoon, he came to the bank with around ₹1.5 lakh. He kept ₹1 lakh separately and had ₹50,000 as loose cash. He was sorting this cash near the counter.

At that time, a man came to him and asked for loose change. The businessman told him to get it from the bank. The man kept insisting. During this, he tricked the businessman, took ₹35,000 kept near the counter, and ran away.

By the time the businessman reached the gate, the criminal had already escaped. This caused chaos in the bank.

Anoj Kumar, SHO of Nagar Police Station, said that a complaint has been received and further investigation is going on.
