The central government has made its position clear regarding the possibility of a flexible retirement age for its employees. This clarification came after a query raised by Member of Parliament Tejveer Singh in the Rajya Sabha.

Singh asked whether the government is considering an early retirement scheme for central government employees and how such a scheme might impact them. In response, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that there is no proposal under consideration for an early retirement scheme.

Singh also asked if the government had any plans to increase the retirement age for employees who wish to work longer. The minister reiterated that no such plans or proposals exist for allowing employees to retire later.

On the matter of flexible retirement age, Dr. Singh explained that while there is no general policy for flexibility, employees who meet specific criteria already have the option to retire early. These provisions are outlined in the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021, and the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, among others.

“The central government employees who fulfill the prescribed criteria have the option to seek early retirement available to them under Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021, All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, etc.,” the minister stated.

This clarification emphasizes that while the government provides structured options for early retirement, there are no plans to change the retirement age policy at this time.
