The reconciliation talks have failed between All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Federation (AIPNBOF) and Bank Management at the office of Labour Commissioner. AIPNBOF will conduct strike on 9 October 2025 for fulfillment of demand of 5 Day Banking.
This marks the first major strike for introduction of 5 Day Banking. AIPNBOF has requested all its members and banking fraternity to support the strike.
The federation’s primary demand is the immediate declaration of all Saturdays as holidays for the banking industry under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act.
he Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has already recommended to the Government of India that all Saturdays should be declared holidays for banks, in line with the agreement reached between the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and the IBA under the 9th Joint Note dated March 8, 2024. But till now, the Government has not declared 5 Day Banking.
The resentment amongst Bank employees is growing and bankers are demanding their unions/associations to take strict steps.
The strike call has been signed by Krishna Kumar, General Secretary of AIPNBOF, and a copy of the notice has also been sent to the Chief Labour Commissioner, Ministry of Labour, and the MD & CEO of Punjab National Bank.
Banking services across Punjab National Bank branches may be disrupted on October 9.
