The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Shri Indranil Bhattacharyya as Executive Director (ED), effective March 19, 2025.
Before his promotion, Shri Bhattacharyya served as an Adviser in the Monetary Policy Department of the RBI. With nearly three decades of experience, he has worked in various key areas, including monetary policy, fiscal policy, banking, and international economic relations. Over the years, he has held important roles in the Monetary Policy Department, Department of Economic and Policy Research, and the International Department of the RBI.
Additionally, from 2009 to 2014, he served as an Economic Expert in the Technical Office of the Governor at the Qatar Central Bank in Doha, Qatar.
As Executive Director, Shri Bhattacharyya will oversee the Department of Economic and Policy Research at the RBI.
He holds a Postgraduate degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. His research interests include monetary theory and policy, financial markets, market microstructure, and fiscal policy.
This appointment further strengthens the leadership team at the Reserve Bank of India, leveraging Shri Bhattacharyya’s expertise in economic research and policy-making.
