What Reddit post said

A senior woman colleague at a large private bank asked for a few days of leave. Her mother was critically ill because of wrong medication. She wasn’t asking for anything special. Just some time. The manager’s response was: “If she’s not recovering, put her in a medical or shelter home and come to office.” That was it. She was left with two choices – Work as usual or stay with her mother. She stayed with her mother. Soon after that, she had to resign. She had worked there for years. I’m posting this here because I honestly don’t know what the “right” response is anymore in such workplaces. What would you have done?
When users requested the user to reveal the name of the bank, the user said – ICICI Bank.

The incident has sparked strong reactions online, with many users criticising toxic work culture and lack of compassion in corporate environments. Several commenters said such attitudes reflect deeper issues in how organisations treat employees during personal emergencies. What you think – do let us know in the comment section below.

I left my job at a PSB, when i service i had taken two weeks leave for my father’s treatment. It required me one more week as he was having hospital visits even after discharge and being only son I was at home to take care of this. At that time Bank decided to transfer me as penalty because in that week GM of bank visited branch and found me on leave from some days then. They bullied me to join next day to avoid transfer. But this isnt painful, what is painful is – our officers Association secretary blatantly said that bank is paying to take care of bank , arrange some driver for taking him to hospital and join work. I duno why don’t they understand emotions, i have worked day in and night out for thr Bank. I resigned after few months, the so said association did not even call to check why.
It depends on the organisation. I got retired in 2018 from the bank after serving 37 years . I never faced any situation of harrasment that the complaining official encountered during his service for getting leave. I felt bad for such incidents which are coming to limelight due to social media. I know, such incidents are happening not only in banks but also in other organisations including Government departments
But I think they have redressal forum for the employees in particular for women employees to address such issues
