On Wednesday, employees of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Churu held a strong protest outside the bank branch located near Dharmastupa. The protest was organized in response to the imposition of the perquisite tax and the bank’s new circular regarding loan issuance. Employees are being forced to pay tax on loans available at low interest rate. Due to this, some of the Employees are even getting salary in negative.

The protesting employees expressed their dissatisfaction with the additional tax burden, stating that, unlike other banks, PNB should also bear the cost of the perquisite tax itself. According to the employees, this added financial strain is affecting their morale. They particularly highlighted the difficulties faced by officers enrolled in the new pension scheme, who are already deprived of the benefits provided under the old pension scheme. These officers, they said, would face even more challenges due to the new tax burden.

In addition to the tax issue, the employees also voiced strong opposition to a recent circular issued by the bank’s management concerning loans. They argued that the new circular would financially harm the employees and called for its immediate cancellation. The protesters demanded that the management create policies that ensure the financial well-being and stability of the employees.

The protesters also raised concerns that such policies are discouraging young talent from joining the banking sector, further impacting the future of the industry.
