Police released Bank Customer who attacked Female Manager working in Canara Bank

On December 6, a disturbing incident of misconduct and assault against a woman bank manager came to light at a Canara Bank branch in the Gandhi Maidan police station area of Patna. The contractor not only raised his hand against the woman manager but also verbally abused her. A bank colleague managed to capture the entire incident on video.

The woman bank manager lodged a formal complaint with the Gandhi Maidan police station on Friday, detailing the events. The accused, identified as contractor Rakesh Kumar, was initially taken into police custody and sent to jail. However, he was reportedly released later that same night.

Contractor’s Statement: “You Have to Deal with a Real Man”

Rakesh Kumar, the accused contractor, resorted to threats and indecent behavior, accusing the manager of not assisting him. He reportedly said, “You pretend to be a manager, but I have senior officers in my family far more powerful than you. You act smart, now you have to deal with a real man.” He then allegedly raised his hand against the woman during the altercation.

Mobile Snatched and Broken

Rakesh Kumar had approached the bank branch seeking a loan. Upon learning that his poor credit score (CIBIL score) made him ineligible for the loan, he became furious. He demanded the manager to “fix” his credit score. When the manager explained that the bank has no authority over correcting or altering CIBIL scores, he lost his temper.

The situation escalated as Rakesh began hurling abuses at the manager. Despite attempts by other staff members to intervene, the contractor continued his aggressive behavior. When the woman manager tried to record the incident on her phone, the contractor snatched it from her hands and smashed it. He also issued further threats before leaving the premises after an hour of chaos.

The female manager, shaken by the incident, went into shock. Later in the evening, she, along with other bank staff, approached the police to file a formal complaint.

Police Action: Contractor Released Under Legal Provisions

Patna’s CT SP Central, Sweety Sahrawat, confirmed that a case had been registered based on the manager’s complaint. Relevant sections were invoked against the accused, and he was taken into custody for questioning.

However, under the new legal provisions, offenses carrying less than seven years of imprisonment allow for bail to be granted from the police station itself after issuing a notice. Following these guidelines, the contractor was released. The matter will now be taken up in court. If required, the accused may be summoned for further questioning based on court directives.

Significance of the Incident

This incident highlights not only the challenges faced by bank staff in handling aggressive customers but also underscores the importance of ensuring safety and respect for women in workplaces. The outcome of this case will set a precedent for addressing such incidents in the future.
