A shocking case of the death of a 33-year-old man has been reported from a Nasha Mukti Kendra in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The family of the deceased has accused the staff of the centre of assaulting the man.
The incident took place at the Mini Golden Sanskar Nasha Mukti Kendra located on Shanichara Road in Gwalior. Pankaj Pachauri (Sharma), a resident of Tyagi Nagar in Gwalior and an officer at Punjab National Bank (PNB), had been admitted to the Nasha Mukti Kendra on 25 July.
He was working as Agriculture Officer and posted at Porsa, Morena District, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Two days ago, Pankaj, had escaped from the centre along with other inmates. When he returned home, he was in completely good health. However, considering his condition and for his well-being, his family informed the centre and got him readmitted. Just a few hours later, the centre admitted Pankaj to the trauma centre in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
On Wednesday morning, the Nasha Mukti Kendra informed Pankaj’s family about his death. When the family saw his body, they found multiple severe injury marks on it. They claimed that just 24 hours earlier, Pankaj was healthy and had no such marks. The family has alleged that the centre’s operators, Vishal Kankar and Harsh Shinde, assaulted Pankaj, causing his death.
Pankaj Sharma was married to Anukriti Katare. They have a daughter.
The family has demanded that the administration and police register an FIR against the centre’s operators and shut down the facility. Responding to the allegations, Maharajpur Police Station in-charge Dharmendra Yadav said that statements from both the centre’s management and the family will be recorded based on the findings of Pankaj’s post-mortem report, and further action will be taken accordingly.
He had been badly addicted to dry drugs (smack-ganja) for some time. The family members had admitted Pankaj to Mini Golden Sanskar De-addiction Center located on Shanichara Road in Maharajpura on 25 July.
On Tuesday morning (12th August) 7-8 youths including Pankaj ran away from the de-addiction centre. When Pankaj returned home he was completely healthy. His family informed the de-addiction centre and staff from the centre came and found Pankaj near Baragaon Khurai and took him back.
His family has raised serious complaint of murder on staff of Nasha Mukti Kendra. More details will be released soon.
