In a shocking incident, the branch manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB), in Kiriyanch, Morena district was attacked by unidentified miscreants while returning home from the bank. The attackers not only physically assaulted him but also opened fire during the altercation, creating panic in the area.

Attack on PNB Manager
According to initial reports, the attack took place in Gwalior Circle when the bank manager was on his way home after completing his day’s work. A group of unidentified individuals stopped him and engaged in a heated argument, which soon escalated into violence. The assailants physically assaulted the manager and even fired gunshots before fleeing the scene.
The incident took place near Kiriyach Bridge while returning from work on Thursday evening.
The victim has been identified as Vikas Kumar Deepak who has been serving as a Senior Manager at Punjab National Bank’s Kiriyach branch for the past few months. His work primarily involves field recovery operations.
According to the police report filed at Sihoria police station, Vikas Kumar Deepak was returning home along with his colleagues Prateek Soni (Clerk) and Vivek Sharma (Senior Manager) in Sharma’s car after closing the bank. Around 5:30 PM, when their vehicle reached Kiriyach Bridge, three unidentified men on motorcycles stopped them and attacked Deepak with wooden sticks. He sustained injuries on his neck and back.
During the attack, Deepak’s mobile phone fell to the ground, and his colleagues intervened to protect him, after which the attackers fled the scene. The victim stated that he does not recognize the assailants and suspects the attack could be linked to his professional duties.
Following the incident, Deepak and his colleagues approached the police, and a formal complaint was registered. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers.
Vikas stated that nine cheques presented at his branch had bounced. On Thursday, a lawyer took the necessary action from the bank to file them in court. It is suspected that an enraged defaulter from one of these bounced cheques carried out a life-threatening attack on him.
Following the attack, several banking associations and employee unions have expressed concern and urged authorities to provide better security for bank officials. They have demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against the culprits to prevent such incidents in the future.
The police have assured that the culprits will be arrested soon and that security measures will be strengthened in the area. “We have launched an investigation and are tracking the suspects. The safety of bank employees is our priority,” said a senior police officer.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the banking community, with many calling for enhanced security measures to protect employees handling sensitive transactions. More updates on the case are expected as the investigation progresses.
