Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh: Thieves uprooted and stole a Punjab National Bank (PNB) ATM near the Loco Shed bridge in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The incident was discovered early in the morning, creating panic among bank officials and the police. A police team and forensic experts reached the spot and began their investigation.
The thieves sprayed paint on the CCTV camera installed at the ATM to blur the footage and hide their identity. This has made it difficult for police to identify the suspects. Officials are currently trying to find out how much cash was inside the ATM at the time of the theft. CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area is also being checked.
According to officials, the same group of criminals had earlier attempted to break an ATM machine in the Galshaheed area. After failing there, they targeted the ATM near the Loco Shed bridge. Police said the thieves uprooted the entire machine and loaded it into a vehicle before fleeing. Police have set up blockades across the area to catch the culprits.
This incident has again raised serious questions about the safety and security of ATMs. Why was a security guard not deployed at the ATM? If a security guard had been present, the robbery could have been averted. Banks need to rethink and upgrade the safety and security of ATMs.
