A major fraud has been uncovered in the IBPS Clerk exam in Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow police have arrested a gang that solved exam papers for candidates, charging them lakhs of rupees. As per reports, an assistant manager of a bank ran the gang. The accused used AI to create fake images of candidates and then arranged solvers to take the exam. So far, 10 members of the gang have been arrested.
The case came to light when a fake candidate was caught in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. A man named Abhishek appeared for the exam in place of candidate Gaurav Aditya. The exam center director, Shailendra Vajpayee, suspected something was wrong and informed the police. Abhishek was detained and questioned.
During interrogation, Abhishek revealed the entire gang. Police said he had been taking exams for other candidates for several years. DCP South Nipun Aggarwal stated that Anand Kumar, an assistant manager at Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank in Khabupura, Sambhal, was the mastermind. Anand had built a team of bank employees, solvers, brokers, and even some officers.
According to reports, the gang operated in a highly organized manner. Anand contacted candidates through a broker named Rohit, collected money, and guaranteed success. Candidates paid an advance of ₹2 lakh. Solvers were paid ₹20,000 for prelims and up to ₹1 lakh for main exams. The remaining money was shared among gang members. Overall, the gang extorted ₹5.2 lakh per candidate.
The gang used advanced AI tools for cheating. They edited candidate and solver photos using apps like MIXX, GRINDR, REMINI AI, CHAT GPT, and FOTOR. The AI-made images were up to 70% identical, making it almost impossible to tell real candidates from solvers. These images were used in applications and admit cards, and the solvers appeared for the exams.
Police said Anand had in-depth knowledge of the banking sector. He had appeared in many bank exams and used his contacts to form the gang. He recruited solvers, brokers, bank employees, and Scale-1 officers. Each gang member had a specific role: filling forms, editing photos, taking exams, or managing interviews.
DCP Nipun said 10 members, including Anand, have been arrested. The arrested are Anand Kumar, Gaurav Aditya, Harsh, Bhagirath, Sudhanshu, Dhananjay, Rajiv Nayan Pandey, Mukesh, Ashish Ranjan, and Abhishek. Some members are still at large. Four police teams are conducting raids in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Bihar Police have also been informed. Police are now investigating how many candidates the gang helped get bank jobs through fraud.
This is a big fraud as lakhs of deserving candidates have been deprived of jobs. The career of several deserving candidates has been compromised. Government should make strict rules for such frauds.
