Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, has given his four-month-old grandson, Ekagrah Rohan Murty, shares worth over Rs. 240 crore in the company. This gift has resulted in a decrease in Narayana’s personal shareholding in the IT giant from 0.40% to 0.36%. An official filing revealed the transaction and confirmed that Ekagrah now holds a 0.04% stake in Infosys, which is the second-largest IT services firm in India. This significant gift potentially makes Ekagrah the youngest millionaire in India.
In November 2023, Rohan Murty, Narayana Murthy’s son, and his wife, Aparna Krishnan, celebrated the birth of their son Ekagrah. The name Ekagrah, derived from Sanskrit, represents unwavering focus and determination. This birth introduced the third grandchild to the Murthy family, as Narayana also has two granddaughters through his daughter Akshata Murty. With the substantial gift of Infosys shares from his grandfather, privileged Ekagrah has become a stakeholder in one of India’s most prestigious IT companies at just four months old.
Meanwhile, Sudha Murty, Narayana Murthy’s wife and Ekagrah’s grandmother, recently took an oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Her nomination was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on International Women’s Day as a recognition of her contributions to social work, philanthropy, and education. After leading the Infosys Foundation for over 25 years, Sudha retired in December 2021.
Infosys was founded in 1981 with a humble investment of $250. Over time, it has grown into one of India’s most esteemed companies and currently holds the position of the country’s second-largest IT services firm, after TCS. The company has received acclaim for its innovative corporate governance and its role in democratizing wealth creation. Sudha played a vital role in kick-starting Infosys with an initial investment, marking the beginning of an extraordinary journey towards success and influence.
