Meeting Scheduled between DFS and UFBU on 27 Nov

DFS Secretary, Finance ministry has called for a meeting with UFBU on 27th November. AIBEA General Secretary – C.H. Venkatachalam announced this on X (formerly Twitter).
The proposal of 5 Day Banking is still pending with DFS and PMO. It’s been more than 1.5 years but still 5 Day Banking has not been implemented. Several meetings have been held with Bank Management and DFS at the office of Chief Labour Commissioner but still no proper decision has been taken regarding 5 Day Banking.
What happened in Earlier Meetings?
On 4th November 2025, a meeting was held between Bank unions, IBA and Government representatives at CLC Office.
(i) PLI: The suggestions noted in the minutes dated 26.09.2025 were discussed in detail, and the DFS also gave its views. After a thorough discussion, both parties agreed that they need to hold more bilateral talks before they can make any final proposal for DFS to consider. The conciliation officer advised them to continue their bilateral discussions so they can develop possible solutions for DFS to review within the rules of the current scheme.
(ii) Recruitment: The DFS stated that the issue will be addressed adequately. However, the union insisted that banks should also initiate recruitment of sub-staff and security staff.
(iii) Five Days Banking: The Conciliation Officer apprised that the D.O. letter, as recorded in the last meeting, would be sent to the Secretary, DFS very soon. The DFS also stated that the matter is under active consideration.
(iv) Enhancement of the ceiling of Gratuity amount: The DFS stated that it has once again written to the Ministry of Labour & Employment vide letter No. 4/8/1/2024-IR dated 25.08.2025 to take appropriate action and revise the ceiling from 20 to 25 lacs.
(v) Issue of appointment of Workmen/Non-workmen Directors: The DFS stated that the matter is under consideration.
(vi) Residual issues: Both IBA and UFBU agreed that they will continue to discuss other residual issues for amicable solution.
