Despite his love for this popular North Indian delicacy, Malhotra often felt disappointed by the lack of hygiene and consistency at roadside stalls. He realized that while Chhole Kulche was loved by millions, there was no standard way of serving it cleanly and quickly. That’s when an idea struck him: What if a vending machine could make and serve fresh, hygienic, and customizable plates of Chhole Kulche in just a minute?
Taking the Leap
After working in banking for over ten years, Malhotra finally decided to take a risk. He left his stable job to chase his dream. He spent an entire year researching, experimenting, and building a custom vending machine that could do what no one had done before—serve hot, delicious, and customizable Chhole Kulche with just the press of a button.
Sagar Malhotra shared that he has worked in various cities across India and abroad, including Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi. His last job in a bank offered him a hefty annual package of Rs 70 lakh, but he was not satisfied.
His machine allowed customers to choose their spice level—mild, medium, or extra spicy. It also offered a choice of breads, from traditional maida bhaturas to healthier whole wheat options. Most importantly, it ensured proper hygiene, something that many roadside stalls lacked.
Chakh De Chole: A Dream Turns into Reality
With his invention ready, Malhotra opened his first outlet, Chakh De Chole, in Rajouri Garden, Delhi. The response was overwhelming! People loved the concept, and soon, he launched another outlet in Vikaspuri. The machine’s ability to serve a fresh plate in just 60 seconds became a talking point, making his business a huge success.
Sagar’s chhole kulche business is growing rapidly, with both online and offline sales picking up. His first shop in Rajouri Garden is bustling, while his second shop in Vikaspuri is also gaining popularity.Sagar plans to open his third shop in Jaipur and a fourth in Bengaluru. Under the name ‘Chak De Chole’, his brand is now profitable, and he anticipates that annual sales will exceed Rs 70 lakh soon.
A Family Effort and Internet Sensation
Malhotra credits much of his success to his mother, who played a key role in supporting his journey. His story has now caught the attention of the internet, inspiring many to chase their dreams, no matter how unconventional they may seem.
From being a banker to creating India’s first-ever Chhole Kulche vending machine, Malhotra’s story proves that sometimes, the best business ideas come from our everyday cravings.
