Man commits suicide as bank rejects his loan application

A 45-year-old farmer from Pisatri village of Panhala tehsil in Kolhapur district ended his life by hanging on Friday morning after his application for an education loan for his son got rejected by a bank. The deceased has been identified as Mahadev Narayan Patil. Kolhapur is a city on the banks of the Panchaganga River, in the west Indian state of Maharashtra.

According to Patil’s relatives, he was seeking an education loan of Rs 85,000 for his son who is studying homeopathy at a Jaysinpur-based private college. His loan application, however, was rejected by the bank.

Pramod Surve, assistant police inspector of Kale police station said, “We spoke with the bank manager and he informed us that the deceased had approached the bank for a loan. Patil was asked to get the required documents and after scrutinising the same, he was informed about his ineligibility for the loan.”
