The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a change in the public holiday for Mahavir Jayanti in 2026. Earlier, Mahavir Jayanti was declared a public holiday on 31 March 2026 (Tuesday). However, the government has now allowed a change in the holiday date.

New Decision
Based on requests from social organizations, the government has decided that district collectors can declare the holiday on 30 March 2026 (Monday) instead of 31 March, depending on local conditions.
- If Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated on 30 March, the holiday can be given on that day.
- If it is celebrated on 31 March, then no change is needed, and the holiday will remain on that date.
This decision gives flexibility to districts so that the holiday matches the actual date of celebration in different areas. The aims is that people can celebrate Mahavir Jayanti on the correct day as per local traditions, while still getting a public holiday.
