The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that the Nirav Modi’s petition to reopen his extradition case has been rejected by the High Court of Justice, London. The order was issued on 25 March 2026. The court refused to reopen the case. It said that the reasons given by Nirav Modi were not strong or exceptional enough to allow reopening of the proceedings.

Nirav Modi had filed the petition based on the Bhandari judgment. He argued that he may face ill-treatment in India. He also said that the assurances given by Indian authorities are not enough to protect his rights.

However, the CBI strongly opposed this request. A special CBI team, including officers, travelled to London for the hearing and supported the case. The Crown Prosecution Service also argued the case effectively. The court accepted the arguments presented by the prosecution and the CBI. It rejected Nirav Modi’s request to reopen the case.

Background of the Case

The CBI is seeking Nirav Modi’s extradition in connection with the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case. The case involves financial fraud of about ₹6,498.20 crore.
