On Thursday, a large group of local people gathered to protest against the manager of the Budhal branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Rajouri. The protesters raised serious complaints about the manager’s behaviour and the way he treated customers at the bank.

Customers Accuse Manager of Unfair Practices

One woman among the protesters said her bank account was frozen without any clear reason, even though she did not have any pending loan payments. This caused her a lot of trouble, as she could not access her money. An auto driver also spoke up, saying that the manager was often rude and misbehaved with the customers who came to the branch.

Forced Insurance Enrollment and Extra Charges

Social activists Waqar Lone and Mohammad Farooq Inqlabi joined the protest and accused the bank manager of forcing loan applicants to buy insurance policies without their permission. According to them, poor and unemployed people who take loans from the bank are made to pay extra amounts ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 26,000 for insurance. This money is directly deducted from the loan amount, which makes it harder for these borrowers to repay their loans.

Complaints of Bribery and Abuse

The protesters also claimed that the manager used rude and abusive language when dealing with customers. They said he demanded bribes in exchange for processing loan applications and other services at the bank. This behaviour caused a lot of anger and frustration among the local people.

Police Intervention Ends Protest

A police team arrived at the protest site and spoke with the protesters to understand their concerns. After discussions with the police, the protest was peacefully ended.
