Jewellery of Rs.80 lakhs missing from locker in SBI Noida branch

A case has been filed against State Bank of India’s Sector-18 branch manager Sushil Kumar, record keeper Pankaj Kumar, and former bank manager Sunita Asthana in connection with the disappearance of jewelry worth lakhs from the branch’s locker. The Sector-20 Police is conducting an investigation into the matter and has also questioned bank employees. The police have sought information from the bank regarding this case.

The complaint was filed by Parul Khare, a resident of Lotus Boulevard Society in Sector-100, who had a locker at SBI’s Sector-18 branch. She claimed to have kept jewelry worth more than 80 lakhs in the locker. Almost a year later, on Monday, she came to inspect the locker.

When she tried to open the locker with her key, it didn’t open. Subsequently, in the presence of bank officials, the locker was broken, revealing it to be empty. All the jewelry kept in it was missing. Concerns were raised about the collusion between bank officials and employees in this case.

Parul Khare, the complainant, stated that the role of bank management and employees is suspicious in this case. Meanwhile, Noida’s Additional Police Commissioner Manish Mishra is overseeing the investigation. Action is being taken based on the collection of facts.

As per the new rules for bank lockers, customers are allowed to keep only jewelry, essential documents, and legally valid items in the locker. RBI has explicitly stated in its new regulations that if the belongings of customers in the bank locker incur any damage, the bank will be obligated to pay 100 times the annual rent of the locker. In case of fire, looting, or theft, the bank will also be liable to compensate, as such incidents are considered the negligence of the banks.

  1. Collect the amount equal to the value stolen from the employees responsible and in charge of the locker along with interest.

    1. Ya
With reference to missing of Gold ornaments worth of Rs 80 lakhs in SBI sector 18 branch, may be no doubt.
As the Top management of the Bank is not foll

  2. Yes, missing of ornaments worth of Rs 18 lakhs in SBI sector 18 may be true in nature.
As the SBI Top management not following the judgement given by a 7 members constitutional bench of supreme Court in electoral bonds case. As a contempt case also filed against the top management of the bank.
It is doubtful whether the bank follows the rule of law unless stringent action will be taken against them.

  3. Bank officials must be involved in it , if this type of theft happens in such a big Bank , can’t be helped out , proper enquiry and punish the culprits

  4. Banks are looting the customers, they apply the rules as per their convenience and wish. They have transfer powers to debit the money in case of locer rents. They even increased the locker rent with retrograde effect for last past 4yrs and debited the balance amount even without informing the customers , how can they change the rules one sided,it’s against the law. In senior citizen saving scheme case , they don’t inform the custmorss on completion of 5yrs terms and just close the account without crediting the principal amount, neighter pay the interest for overdue time period , they just hold the amount and use it for their businesses. Rules are one sided and anti customers.its their duty to credit the principal amount on maturity.

  6. All these years we have learnt that SBI customers service is one of the worst in banking industry but today it is very clear it is no more a safe bank. Their staff including from top management to lower cadre are all criminal minded and they don’t care about customer account safety and services are worst to the core. We have kept lot of trust in this bank but today the bank is betraying its customers. It is like fence eating away the crops. Hell with this bank. Thank God I changed my mind by not opening account with this bank after hearing the news. Think twice before dealing with this bank. Looks the staff of this bank is colluding with each other in committing these type of frauds.

  7. Lock of the loker might have been changed by the loker manufacturing Company while replacing the locks of any side by locker whose key was lost by the concerned hirer. Bank employee/ officer concerned appears to be negligent in constant watching the replacement work by the Godrej worker. No CCTV is allowed inside to maintain secrecy of customer. Direct involvement of Bank officials in the crime is less likely but compel to own the responsibility as he is the custodian.

  8. My question is how a banker would know what’s in the locker because it is operated in strict privacy by the locker owner. Further, the locker is operated by two keys, one of the bank and the other of customer.
