Gurugram Police have arrested two individuals, including Aditya Chaturvedi, a business development manager at IndusInd Bank, in connection with a ₹4.97 crore fraud case. The accused allegedly purchased bank accounts from customers by offering them money and then sold these accounts to fraudsters at double the price.
Details of the Fraud
According to ACP Cyber Crime Priyanshu Diwan, the police had been investigating the case for a long time. The fraud was carried out under the guise of stock market investments. The two arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Aditya Chaturvedi – Resident of Katghar Musa, Ambedkarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), currently living in Adhyapak Nagar, Nangloi. He worked as a business development manager at IndusInd Bank’s Gujranwala Town branch in Delhi.
- Avinash Sharma – Resident of Mahendra Park, Rani Bagh, Delhi, currently living in Shakurpur Colony, Anandwas. His bank account was used in the fraud.
The police team arrested both suspects from their homes.
How the Scam Worked
Investigations revealed that Avinash Sharma sold his bank account to Aditya Chaturvedi for ₹25,000. Aditya, who had been working at IndusInd Bank for the past two years, got involved in fraudulent activities when an unknown person offered him ₹10,000 for a savings account and ₹50,000 for a current account. Aditya started opening bank accounts using Avinash Sharma’s shop address and sold them to fraudsters.
The fraudulent activities linked to Avinash Sharma’s account have led to 12 complaints from different states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Assam, and Maharashtra. Several police teams had been searching for the accused, but the Gurugram Police finally managed to arrest them.
Ongoing Investigation
ACP Priyanshu Diwan stated that the police are interrogating the accused to uncover other members of the syndicate involved in similar fraudulent activities. So far, Gurugram Police have arrested 27 individuals in different cybercrime cases. Further investigations are underway to identify additional suspects.
