Indian Overseas Bank collaborates with government to uplift SC, OBC communities

The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, officially launched the PMSURAJ (Pradan Mantri Samajik Utthan and Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan) Portal on 13.03.2024, with a focus on the economic empowerment of marginalized sections of society, including SC, OBC, Senior Citizens, Transgender individuals, and Sanitation workers. Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is at the forefront of this initiative, working in collaboration to uplift these communities.

The PM-SURAJ (Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan and Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan) Portal is an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes, and other communities that have been deprived of opportunities. The portal aims to provide social and economic empowerment, as well as access to health and educational facilities for these communities. It also offers loans at low interest rates to small entrepreneurs, promoting business employment and catalyzing transformative changes in their lives. The PM-SURAJ portal embodies the government’s commitment to prioritizing the underprivileged and is a transformative initiative aimed at uplifting the most marginalized segments of society. During the launch, the Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes targeting marginalized groups, highlighting the government’s commitment to uplifting disadvantaged sections of society.

Concessional finance is being provided to SC entrepreneurs under the Economic Welfare of Youth of Marginalized Sections to ensure the safety and dignity of sanitation workers under the Welfare of Sanitation Workers, while also prohibiting discrimination in the fields of education, employment, healthcare, etc. Support is also being provided for marginalized individuals for livelihood and enterprise under the Welfare of Senior Citizens. The Hon’ble PM also interacted with several beneficiaries from various parts of the country.

The event covered 500+ selected districts in the country, with all 38 districts in the state of Tamil Nadu being included. A total of 12,438 beneficiaries benefited from the scheme during the event conducted in the state on 13.03.2024. The program was attended in Tiruppur by Thiru R N Ravi, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, in Madurai by Shri. Venkatesan, Hon’ble Chairman, National Commission for Safai Karmachari, and in Chennai by senior-level officials from various banks, including Thiru. Dhanaraj T, ED, Indian Overseas Bank, Thiru. T N Venkatesh, IAS, Ex-officio Managing Director, Backward Classes Welfare, Smt.Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, IAS, Chennai District Collector, and Thiru Mohan M, General Manager, Indian Overseas Bank & Convenor SLBC -TN. Sanction letters under various Government schemes were handed over to the beneficiaries during the program.
