The Coimbatore branch of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has communicated its concerns to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, opposing the proposed bi-weekly bank holiday.
B. Sriramulu, the President of the Chamber, articulated in an official statement that there have been indications that the Reserve Bank of India is contemplating a two-days-a-week holiday arrangement for bank employees. Highlighting that banks are vital commercial entities and play a pivotal role in facilitating business transactions, Sriramulu emphasized that the state of Tamil Nadu aims to engage 1.2 crore women in banking activities for the betterment of State benefit schemes.
Given this context, he expressed apprehensions that reducing the number of operational days could significantly impede banking transactions, especially for businesses. Thus, he urged the RBI to reconsider the notion of implementing a two-days-a-week holiday system. Instead, he suggested exploring options to potentially enhance working hours and the number of operational days.
